General Summary

As a senior accountant at CHE Behavioral, you will perform complex accounting tasks, including journal entries, reconciliations, and verifying agency financial transactions. The Senior Accountant will maintain a ledger to ensure the effectiveness and accuracy of all accounting tasks, including transactional processing, financial analysis, annual budget support and monitoring, and monthly financial statements.  You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide valuable insights and recommendations that contribute to the overall financial health and strategic direction of the company.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Assist the Controller in preparing accurate financial reports, conduct research and analysis, manage the general ledger, perform account reconciliations, aid in audit preparations, and fulfill other accounting responsibilities.
  • Analyze financial data and provide concise summaries of financial standing.
  • Assess accounting systems and procedures, proposing adjustments where necessary.
  • Generate regular reports such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, complete with financial analysis, variance explanations, and key performance indicators.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in audits, account records, and instances of non-compliance.
  • Assist with month-end close process & coordinate year-end audits.
  • Recommend ways to reduce costs and enhance revenue.
  • Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and alert the Controller and CFO if necessary.
  • Reconcile accounts monthly to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
  • Work closely with department heads to create, monitor, and manage departmental budgets.
  • Provide variance analysis and insights to identify areas of concern or improvement.

Outside the organization:

  • Presents financial information or other analyses to leadership.
  • Oversees cash management processes and reporting.
  • Provides financial analysis and supports expense management initiatives, as required.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Three years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Mastery of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a demonstrated ability to function independently
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand technical forms and financial reports
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, and experience with Sage Intacct ERP systems is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in critical thinking and analytical problem-solving
  • Proven proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving complex issues
  • Ability to analyze and streamline workflows to enhance efficiency
  • Strong decision-making skills in high-pressure situations
